Cool CBD Coquito: A Traditional Puerto Rican Favorite

At our house, we usually have a stream of visitors over the days surrounding the 25th. The last few years may have been a tad, well, less, but that doesn’t mean we don’t go all-out for those who come by for some festive joy.

And one of things we do to try and welcome people is with festive holiday food and drinks that kick things up a notch. On the list of visitor favourites each and every year is our CBD Coquito.

This is a class Puerto Rican drink that brings tropical and spicy flavors together for a drink that goes down oh-so-easy.

What is Coquito?

Coquito literally translates to little coconut, and that’s a good description – well, except for the ‘little’ part! There’s nothing little about the coconut flavor in this drink.

The main ingredients of coquito are coconut milk and sweet cream of coconut. Evaporated and condensed milks give it that sweet, creamy goodness, and some cinnamon and nutmeg deliver on that warm, holiday spiciness.

It’s sometimes called Puerto Rican Eggnog because the flavors are similar and some recipes actually use eggs. We make ours without. That said, coquito is a cherished beverage with rich culture, traditions and passionate admirers of its very own, so it deserves its distinction as different from eggnog.

We serve our CBD Coquito in small glasses (you can use shot glasses), or you can also serve it over ice. Yummmmm.

Tip: If you don’t feel like making this, but love eggnog and want to up the ante, jsut add your desired dose of CBD oil to your glass of eggnog and stir well!

How to Make CBD Coquito

We like our CBD Coquito to have a little kick, so we add white rum for the warmth. That said, you can make it without the rum and it’s just as good!

Ingredients

  • Sweetened condensed milk – 1 (14 ounce) can
  • Cream of coconut – 1 (15 ounce) can
  • Evaporated milk – 1 (12 ounce) can
  • Coconut milk – 1 (13.5 ounce) can
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla, or 1 vanilla bean, split and seeded
  • 2 whole cinnamon sticks
  • 1/2 teaspoon grated nutmeg
  • 1 to 2 cups rum (optional)
  • Grated nutmeg or ground cinnamon for garnish, optional
  • CBD Oil – your desired dose

Directions

Step 1: Place the sweetened condensed milk, cream of coconut, evaporated milk, coconut milk, vanilla, cinnamon sticks, and nutmeg (all the ingredients except the rum) in a large saucepan. Warm over medium-high heat until just starting to simmer. Remove from heat, cover, and let infuse for 30 minutes.

Step 2: Remove the cinnamon sticks and the vanilla bean (if using) and pour the mixture into a punch bowl or pitcher. Add 1 cup of rum and taste; add more rum for a stronger punch.

Step 3: Chill this in the fridge for at least 2 hours or for up to 3 days. Serve cold or over ice in small portions, adding your desired dose of CBD to each glass and stirring well. Garnish with grated nutmeg or ground cinnamon as desired.
