CBD Salve for Dogs: Itchy Paws and Irritated Skin

How Does CBD Salve Work on a Dog’s Skin?

A dog’s skin contains cannabinoid receptors that are part of the endocannabinoid system—a communication network involved in regulating processes such as discomfort, immune response, inflammation and skin balance.

When a CBD salve is applied topically, the cannabinoids interact with this system in the skin and surrounding tissue. This may help calm localized inflammation, soothe the uncomfortable sensation that causes dogs to scratch and lick, and support the skin as it recovers.

However, it supports continued research into cannabinoids and the pathways involved in canine itching and inflammation.

Dogs explore and groom with their mouths. If something is applied to a paw, belly or leg, there is a good chance they will eventually lick the area. That makes us especially cautious about products containing artificial fragrances, unnecessary fillers or essential oils that may not be appropriate for dogs.

Source CBD Salve contains only three ingredients:

Full-spectrum hemp extract
Organic coconut oil
Locally sourced organic beeswax

That is it.

The coconut oil helps moisturize dry skin and carries the hemp extract across the application area. Beeswax gives the salve its protective consistency and helps seal in moisture. Our full-spectrum hemp extract provides naturally occurring cannabinoids, including CBD, CBG and CBN.

There are no artificial fragrances and no long list of unnecessary ingredients to decipher. We chose every ingredient intentionally, knowing that dogs lick themselves.

Although the ingredients are dog-friendly, the salve is intended for topical use—not as a treat. Apply a small amount and allow it time to absorb. If your dog immediately tries to lick off every bit of it, distraction or temporary coverage may help keep the salve in place long enough to do its job.

CBD Salve Is Support—not a Substitute for Finding the Cause

A salve may help soothe itching and irritation, but it cannot identify what caused the problem.

If your dog has broken skin, bleeding, swelling, discharge, a strong odor, rapidly spreading redness or irritation that keeps returning, schedule an appointment with your veterinarian. These symptoms can indicate an infection, yeast overgrowth, parasites or an allergy that needs additional treatment.

CBD salve can be used as part of a broader skin-support routine, particularly for dogs with occasional flare-ups, dry paws or localized areas of discomfort. Some pet owners also use it alongside a veterinarian-directed treatment plan after discussing it with their vet.
