CBD Oil vs Gummies: How to Choose Between the Two

CBD oil vs gummies: Which one is right for you?

You’ve probably noticed that CBD comes in many shapes and sizes. With so many different options to choose from, we know that it can sometimes be tough to choose which one best fits your needs.

So, what’s the difference between a tincture and gummies? Is there a time and a place for both?

CBD Oil vs Gummies: The Difference

First off, what’s the different between CBD oil vs gummies?

A CBD oil tincture is basically just CBD oil blended with a carrier oil of some sort. You can find isolate, full spectrum, or broad spectrum oils, and various different carrier oils. Some of these oils may be flavored.

CBD oil is easy and convenient, and you can take it on its own or add it to pretty much anything, which makes it very versatile.

CBD gummies are, well, gummies, that contain CBD. Again, this might be isolate, full spectrum, or broad spectrum oil, along with a variety of other ingredients to both give them their gummy structure and sometimes for other additional benefits (ie. added vitamins).

CBD gummies have become very popular, and that’s totally understandable. They give you the benefits of CBD with the convenience of an easy to take delivery method. Plus, they taste really good.

Choosing CBD Oil vs Gummies

So, how do you know one is best for you?

1. Rate of Absorption

CBD oil in tincture format goes to work in a short time, especially if you take it sublingually (put it under your tongue and hold it there for 30 seconds or so before swallowing). Placing it on the sublingual gland underneath the tongue allows the CBD to enter your bloodstream, meaning it gets to where it needs to be faster. With a gummy, your body needs to digest it. Since they have to be broken down by your liver and travel through the digestive system, some of the concentration can also be lost. This process means it takes longer to take effect and it might not be as potent.

2. Dosage

We stand firm by the assertion that CBD oil is not a one-szie-fits-all solution. While there are guidelines and recommendations for dosages, some people need more, others less, to get the same effects. It often takes some trial and error to find your perfect fit. And sometimes your dosage depends on what you’re taking it for. With CBD gummies, that trial and error is difficult, whereas with CBD oil you have the ability to minutely alter your dosage, changing it slowly to find the ideal dosage that gives you exactly what you need.

3. Convenience

We mentioned convenience above, and it’s a reason you might opt for one or the other, or at different times. While CBD oil in tincture form can be convenient, sometimes you may not feel like pulling out that dropper bottle and dropping your dose under your tongue. In this case, gummies may be the more convenient option.

4. Versatility

Eating a CBD gummy can feel like having a treat, since you’re eating a delicious candy. However, that’s really the only way you’re going to take CBD in this format. CBD oil tincture is far more versatile. An obvious way is directly by mouth, but that isn’t the only way. You can infuse it into any number of foods or drinks, or even use it topically.

5. Quality/Ingredients

We’re big fans of limited ingredients and watching what’s included in the supplements you take. This can be much harder to control with gummies vs CBD oil. A high quality oil will contain very limited ingredients, often just CBD and a carrier. With gummies, you may have both of those things, but then you’ll have other ingredients that make them gummies. Sometimes it’s hard to tell if these other ingredients are high quality, or even good for you!

As you can see, there are definite benefits to each type, so often the one you’ll choose will depend on what you’re looking to gain from using CBD.

How to Make CBD Gummies

Want to go the gummy route? That’s cool.

And sure, it’s easy to grab a pack online or from your local retailers. But they can be expensive. And, you don’t control the dose or the ingredients. That’s a bummer.

So, let’s whip up a batch and do just that! CBD gummies are fairly quick and easy to make, and as mentioned, it’s easy for you to control the dosage and what’s inside each one. Here’s our recipe…

Ingredients:

  • CBD oil
  • 1 teaspoon honey
  • 1 ½ cups fruit juice or coconut water
  • ½ cup gelatin
  • Food coloring (optional)

How to make:

  1. Pour your gelatin into a medium glass bowl
  2. In a medium saucepan, add the juice/coconut water and honey and combine over low heat until it starts to simmer. Remove from heat.
  3. Pour the warm liquid to the gelatin and whisk quickly to blend well.
  4. Allow the mixture to cool for a few five minutes. If you’re using food coloring, add it now, then whisk some more.
  5. Pour the mixture into your molds.
  6. Add your desired amount of CBD to each mold, then give each one a little stir.
  7. Refrigerate until firm, then carefully remove them from the molds and store in an airtight container in a cool, dry place.

When it comes to CBD, there are often different times when different methods work best, and that includes CBD oil vs gummies. The best thing is, with a bottle of high quality full spectrum oil you can enjoy the best of both worlds, whenever the need fits!
