CBD Salve Uses: How Our Family Reaches for It Every Day

Illustrated wildflower landscape with the title “CBD Salve Uses: Why Our Family Reaches for It So Often.”

We don’t have Neosporin in our house. We have Source salve.

I know that will probably make some people raise an eyebrow, but if you’ve spent any time in our house, you’d understand. Someone comes in with a scrape, somebody else has dry skin, my son’s legs are bothering him, or I realize my feet are a mess. The question is usually the same: “Where’s the salve?”

When I say we use it for almost everything, I’m talking about how often we reach for the jar. It has become one of those things our family knows is there, like the extra blankets or the good snacks nobody is supposed to finish.

So what do we actually use it for? Quite a bit. But the reasons we keep reaching for it are a little different depending on the day.

For all the little things that happen to skin

Cuts, scrapes, and bruises are some of the first things that come to mind. Kids play. Adults bump into things. Life happens, and somebody is suddenly standing there showing you a spot they want you to look at.

We take care of the situation first, of course. Then, for the small everyday things that come up, our salve is often part of the routine. It’s a jar we’re familiar with, so reaching for it feels natural.

We use it on dry hands, rough elbows, chapped skin, and dry feet, too. Living in Arizona, I feel like skin can go from “totally fine” to “why does everything feel so dry?” overnight. I especially notice it on my feet and on the spots I tend to forget about until they’re uncomfortable.

That’s where the texture of a salve makes sense to me. When I want to spend a minute rubbing something into one particular spot, I’d rather open a jar than pump out a handful of lotion. It invites me to actually pay attention to that area instead of rushing through it.

For the moments when someone wants a little comfort

Sore legs and muscle aches are another big reason we reach for ours. Sometimes I’m rubbing it into my own legs after a long day; sometimes I’m sitting with my son when he says his legs hurt.

I don’t want to pretend the jar is doing the entire job in those moments. There’s also something to be said for stopping what you’re doing, sitting beside your kid, and taking a few minutes to rub their legs. He’s getting my attention and a little comfort, and I get a few quiet minutes with him.

I think a lot of parents know exactly what I mean. Not every moment of care needs to be a big production. Sometimes it’s just, “Come here. Let me see.”

For the skin that needs extra attention

We’ve also reached for salve when skin feels tight after a day in the sun, when lips or hands get chapped, and when a dry patch keeps catching my attention. I have eczema-prone skin, so I know how personal skin care can be: you learn what you like having nearby and what feels good as part of your own routine.

It would be easy to turn this into a huge list—sunburned skin, dry feet, chapped lips, rough patches, hands that have been washed a hundred times. But what ties those together for me is the habit of noticing when skin needs a little care and actually taking the time to give it some.

We even have a separate little Source lip balm for lips, though I’ll admit I’ve reached for the salve jar when that was what I had beside me.

Why this jar became a staple

I think the products that become household staples are rarely the ones you remember to use because someone told you to. They’re the ones you reach for without thinking because they fit your life.

That’s what happened with our salve. We made it, we used it, and then one day I realized it was in constant rotation in our house. It wasn’t waiting for some special occasion. It was there for the ordinary stuff: the dry feet before bed, the kid who wants you to look at a scrape, the sore legs, the skin that’s had enough of the weather.

And honestly, I love that. When we make something at Source, I want it to earn its place in a real home. Our salve has definitely earned its place in mine.

These are our family’s experiences, not promises that a salve can treat injuries, pain, or skin conditions. A cut that needs medical attention, persistent pain, or a concerning skin problem deserves proper care. If you’re thinking about using a CBD product with a child, check with their pediatrician.

But if you’re curious why we keep talking about our salve, now you know: in our house, it’s the jar somebody is always asking for.

All Source salves are 35% off this week with code SALVE35.

If you already have one at home, I want to know what happens in your house. What makes you say, “Where’s the salve?”
