Cooking with CBD Oil: 4 Important Tips

We love cooking with CBD oil. At our house, we add it to everything from salad dressing to smoothies, pasta sauce and popsicles.

The thing is, while it’s easy to cook with, there are a few things to keep in mind. To get all the benefits, you want to make sure you follow a few simple rules.

4 Tips for Cooking with CBD Oil

How can you get the best taste and the most benefits of CBD oil? By following these rules:

1. Start Small

If you’ve never done any cooking with CBD oil, start small. It can be easy to add too much, which can alter the taste of your recipe or result in a larger dose than you intended.

2. The Temperature Matters

It’d be easy to say just drizzle some CBD oil in a pan and cook with it, but that’s just not the way it is.

Keeping an eye on temperature is especially important when cooking with CBD.

Warming CBD oil can increase its effectiveness, but higher temperatures will actually kill off the active components. At temperatures higher than 320-356 degrees Fahrenheit, CBD begins to evaporate. It can cause a loss of terpenes, which also makes it lose its effects. Overheating CBD can bring out more of a bitter taste, and you don’t want that. Also avoid placing your CBD oil over direct heat.

Because of these rules, CBD just isn’t made for baking, so even though there are a ton of recipes out there, stick to the ones that only call for low (or no) cooking temps.

EXPERT TIP: Store your CBD in a cool dry place to keep it fresher, longer.

3. Stir, stir, stir. Then stir again.

Whatever you’re cookin’ make sure you’re stirring – more than you think you need to.

So stir. Then stir again. Then stir some more.

You want that oil to be evenly distributed throughout so that every bite packs the same beneficial punch.

4. Choose the Right Carrier

CBD works best in recipes when it’s infused into a fat or oil-based ingredient, like butter, ghee, lard, or coconut oil.

Getting an oil that’s already well infused in a carrier makes this easier.
