Organic CBD Oil: Does it Really Matter if it’s Organic?

You may have noticed that lots of companies advertise organic CBD oil, focusing on the organic as a main selling feature.

Is this just a marketing tactic, or is this really something that you, as a consumer, should focus on?

Sure, we sell CBD so we could just be tooting out own horns because our CBD is organic as well, but there is a reason for it – and it goes well beyond the marketing machine…

Why Finding Organic CBD Oil is So Important

According to the US Department of Agriculture (USDA), when something is organic, that means it’s grown or produced without the use of genetically modified organisms, pesticides, synthetic fertilizers, sewage sludge or ionizing radiation.

I’m going to assume you read that list and thought, “ya, I don’t want those in my CBD.”

And you’d be right.

You may have also noticed that the USDA definition says grown or produced.

Organically grown is important because hemp absorbs toxins from the soil. So, if a farmer uses any chemicals (pesticides or fertilizers) during the growing process, or if there are heavy metals in the soil, those will inevitably end up in your CBD – and in your body!

There are strict growing regulations and guidelines that growers have to follow for something to be organic. So, “organically-grown hemp” refers to hemp that has been grown under these stringent conditions.

Organically produced is also important. While you may find CBD made with organically-grown hemp, if the methods used to process the hemp into CBD oil uses chemicals/solvents, these two can make their way into the CBD oil and your body. That’s something else you don’t want.

An organic CBD oil is both grown and processed organically.

Organic for the Environment

Not only is organic CBD oil better for you (and anyone you’re giving CBD oil to), it’s also way better for the environment!

Hemp is widely celebrated as a sustainable, earth-friendly crop. Not only can we use it as an important alternative to produce a wide variety of eco-friendly products, it also provides essential nutrients for many insects critical for our ecosystem.

However, when growers use chemical pesticides in non-organic farming practices, those chemicals make their way back into the eco-system, harming the wildlife and eventually making their way into the groundwater and flowing all over the place.

What About Natural CBD Oil?

Since CBD oil comes from hemp, the “natural” kind of goes without saying. It comes from a plant, so it really can only be natural.

However, there are some products out there that contain synthetic CBD – meaning these are not natural. So, like organic, when a company says their product is 100% natural, that’s more than a marketing gimmick.

While we know a lot about the minor side effects of CBD, there’s a lot less research on the side effects of synthetic CBD. Because of this, we can’t be sure about the impacts it could have. We recommend always looking for actual “natural” CBD.

How can you tell? Be sure that the label says that it’s from hemp, and check the certificate of analysis. These should help you determine where the CBD is coming from – be it hemp or an unnatural source.

Organic for the Win, Every Time

No matter which CBD oil brand you buy, always make sure you’re buying organic. Organic hemp is cleaner because it’s free from synthetic-chemical pesticides and fertilizers. There’s no contamination from toxic chemicals. It also hasn’t been genetically modified.

As a result, organic CBD oil is a more natural product, making it safer for you and the environment!
