Is CBD Addictive & Can You Become Dependent?

CBD oil has become so popular over the last few years. With a rise in knowledge and appreciation for it’s benefits, more and more people are turning to it as a natural substance for many different uses.

On store shelves and in online shops you can find everything from CBD tinctures to bath products to mattresses.

And people are flocking to these shops in droves.

But is this craze problematic? Is CBD addictive, and can you become dependent on it if you use it for a long period of time? If this is something you’re concerned about, read on?

Is CBD Addictive?

Back in 2017, the Expert Committee on Drug Dependence from the World Health Organization (WHO) did an extensive report on CBD oil. It reviewed several different studies, both human and animal, and looked into various different areas, including:

And of course, is CBD addictive or dependence forming?

According to their report: The evidence from well controlled human experimental research indicates that CBD is not associated with abuse potential.”

The research they reviewed showed that “An orally administered dose of 600mg of CBD did not differ from placebo on the scales of the Addiction Research Centre Inventory.” Additionally, when tested alongside a placebo, CBD had the same addictive qualities. Read: none.

Reverse Tolerance

Not only is CBD not addictive, over time, you will probably need to use less and less.

This is because of something called reverse tolerance.

Typically, when you take a medication or supplement for a long period of time, your body builds up a tolerance to that substance. That means, after a while, you won’t get the same affects as you once did, and so you’ll probably end up need more, or needing it more often.

Thankfully, with CBD, it’s the opposite. Your body doesn’t build up a tolerance. instead, the CBD builds up in the body and you will probably notice that, over time, you actually need less – not more – to feel the same affects!

And that’s pretty amazing.

So, if you’re worried that your daily dose of CBD is going to become a problem over time, don’t be. Is CBD addictive? Nope!
