CBD Lip Balm: Is it Just Marketing Hype?

CBD lip balm

I think it’s safe to say that CBD isn’t just a fad or trend anymore. It’s not a “buzz-word” – it’s a legitimate natural substance that’s being celebrated around the world! And (we believe) it’s not going anywhere!!

Those in the beauty industry agree. According to industry predictions, the CBD beauty industry could be worth $959 million dollars by 2024. That’s a huge number.

And while some of those products are undoubtedly a little wacky, some are actually super beneficial. Does that include CBD lip balm?

Just Marketing Hype?

As mentioned, some of the CBD products we’ve seen pop up on beauty store shelves (and yes, that includes high-end department stores as well as corner drug stores) are a little, well, out there. We’ve seen everything from hair pomade to bath bombs to toothpaste and everything in between.

And sure, some of these beauty products have definite benefits. But others – well, I think we can all agree that some are just products of an innovative marketing team, rather than research and development.

So, where does CBD lip balm fit in? Lots of companies sell it, but is it worth it?

CBD Lip Balm: Yay or Nay?

CBD has many beneficial properties. Research shows it’s:

  • Anti-bacterial
  • Rich in antioxidants
  • Anti-inflammatory

CBD oil is also non-comedogenic (that means it doesn’t clog your pores).

Plus, it’s all natural baby! Many lip balms can’t make that claim. Traditional lip balms often contain synthetic ingredients like petrochemicals and manufactured ingredients for color, fragrance, or taste.

It’s true that CBD is all-natural, but again, some CBD lip balms contain other ingredients that may not be. Some CBD lip balms will also contain synthetic ingredients…

Look for one that contains only natural ingredients like beeswax and coconut oil – 2 common ingredients in organic lip balm.

And, some lip balms can actually do more harm than good! With many of these, when that thin layer evaporates from your lips, your lips will feel even drier, and you’ll feel the need to keep reapplying it.

With an organic CBD balm, the CBD oil seals in the moisture, so you won’t be constantly slathering it on. Those natural anti-bacterial properties mean it’ll stay germ-free. And those anti-inflammatory properties? They’re great for any lip irritations – think cold sores or dry, cracked lips!

What you’ll need:

  • Coconut oil – 2 tablespoons
  • Shea butter – 2 tablespoons
  • Beeswax – 2 tablespoons
  • 1 dropper of CBD oil

How to make it:

  1. Use a double boiler to melt the ingredients. Fill a pot with about an inch of water and heat until boiling. Lower to a simmer and place a second pot on top of the first.
  2. Add coconut oil, shea butter and beeswax to the bowl and heat until melted. Remove bowl from saucepan.
  3. Stir well to combine everything and then add your CBD.
  4. Using a funnel, pour the liquid into lipstick tubes or small tins. It will begin to solidify within a few minutes.
  5. Put the lids on and let the balm solidify at room temperature. Once solid, store it at room temperature.

So, is it Worth it?

Big time!

An organic CBD lip balm gives you all the benefits of CBD oil without the synthetics. It will soothe and moisturize dry, cracked lips, without the need to constantly reapply.

So, whether you buy it or make it yourself, it’s never a bad idea to have some on hand. Trust us, your lips will thank you!
