Will CBD Make Your Dog High?

If we’ve heard it once, we’ve heard it a thousand times: will CBD oil make your dog high?

And it’s a valid question, much the same as asking if a person will get high from it.

Many of us on the Source team are pet parents. Our dogs are beloved members of the family, and we really want the best for them.

And that includes CBD oil (yes, we really do give our dogs our CBD, just as we take it ourselves).

But, does it make them high?

Will CBD Make Your Dog High?

For most pet parents, the thought of your pet wobbling around, unsure of themselves, feeling super dozy, isn’t a very pretty picture. I’ll admit it’s not something I really want to see either.

So, will CBD make your dog high? Thankfully, no.

CBD (cannabidiol) is a non-psychoactive compound. This means that it doesn’t produce that same “high” or “stoned” feeling that’s typically associated with cannabis.

That feeling actually comes from THC, or tetrahydrocannabinol, the main psychoactive cannabinoid found in cannabis.

Animals tend to be much more sensitive to the effects of cannabis than humans, so it’s nice to know a good low-to-no THC content CBD oil isn’t going to have that effect.

Watching the THC Content

If you’re buying cannabis/marijuana for recreational/medicinal use, it’s likely coming from a harvester breeding for that use. That means it’s grown to contain high concentrations of THC with only small amounts of CBD.

This is good for you, but you don’t want to share this with your dog.

What you do want to share is CBD oil specifically formulated with a low-to-no THC content. This typically comes from hemp (which is different from marijuana). Then, you get all the benefits of the CBD oil, without the psychoactive effects of the THC.

Right now, in the U.S., only CBD products with less than 0.3% THC are legal, so finding a supplement for your pet isn’t too tough (of course, you still need to do your research and find a high quality, independently tested oil). 0.3% is far too little to cause any kind of high.

Our dogs’ health is super important, and there are many reasons to add CBD to your pup’s regular routine. If you’re here, I’m guessing that you know what those benefits are. Rest assured, CBD oil for dogs won’t leave your pet feeling high, so bring on the bottle!
